Alex B. Hill is GIS (Geographic Information System) Director at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, and Project Director of the Detroit Food Map Initiative, which has been mapping nutritional access in Detroit since 2011. He started the website DETROITography in an attempt to bring together various Detroit cartographers and their work. Alex teaches in urban studies, public health, geography and data visualization. His work highlights the intersections of power, privilege, and race with regard to health equity, access to basic needs, and the social implications of medicine. He is the author and cartographer of the book Detroit in 50 Maps, from Belt Publishing (2021).
