Tathagata Chatterji

Dr. Tathagata Chatterji is a professor of urban management and governance at the School of Human Settlements, XIM University (Bhubaneswar, India). Broadly within the urban development domain, his specific research interest are urban politics, decentralization, smart cities, and informal livelihoods. Dr. Chatterji is closely involved with comparative research on urban policies in an international context. He received the Gerd Albers Award for Best Publication of the Year (2016) from ISOCARP (International Society of City and Regional Planners) and again received a Special Mention for the same award in 2024. He graduated in architecture from Calcutta University, obtained a master’s degree in urban design from Kent State University (Ohio, USA), and a PhD in urban planning and governance from the University of Queensland (Australia). He is a member of the Planning Institute of Australia.
