Michelle Billies

Michelle Billies, PhD, LCSW-R, is Assistant Professor of Mental Health and Human Services at Kingsborough Community College of the City University of New York. Using perspectives of affective blackness, transnational feminism, critical whiteness, as well as participatory action research and other qualitative methods, Billies explores racialization in ontological systems, low-income queer black geographies, neoliberal surveillance, and radical queer and anti-police brutality movements. Billies’ work is published in ACME: International Journal of Critical Human Geography, Peace and Conflict: Journal of Peace Psychology, Feminism & Psychology, the International Review of Qualitative Research, and the International Gestalt Journal. Billies also maintains a Gestalt psychotherapy practice in New York City.
