Mathieu Berger is professor of sociology at the Université Catholique de Louvain in Belgium, and a researcher at CriDIS (Centre de Recherches Interdisciplinaires Démocratie, Institutions, Subjectivité – Centre for Interdisciplinary Research into Democracy, Institutions and Subjectivity, Université Catholique de Louvain) and CEMS (Centre d’Étude des Mouvements Sociaux – Centre for the Study of Social Movements, Institut Marcel Mauss, École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales).
He is the author of Bruxelles à l’épreuve de la participation. Les contrats de quartier en exercices (photographs by Pauline Beugnies), published by the Government of the Brussels Capital Region in 2009 (178 pages), and, with Daniel Cefaï and Carole Gayet-Viaud, he is the co-editor of Du civil au politique. Ethnographies du vivre-ensemble (Brussels, P.I.E. Peter Lang, “Public Action” series, 2011). His work Les Cadres de l’expérience démocratique. Enquête sur les voix citoyennes dans un dispositif de démocratie technique à Bruxelles is due to be published by P.I.E. Peter Lang as part of its “Public Action” series.
