Carole Gayet-Viaud is a CNRS researcher at CESDIP (Centre de Recherches Sociologiques sur le Droit et les Institutions Pénales – Centre for Sociological Research on Law and Criminal-Justice Institutions; UMR CNRS 8183) and was previously a lecturer at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris-La Villette from 2008 to 2011. Her work concerns urban interactions (civility, incivility, and order in public spaces), and lies midway between urban ecology, the moral sociology of sociability behaviours and the political sociology of forms of public experience and civil participation.
She is co-director, with Mathieu Berger and Daniel Cefaï, of the work Du civil au politique. Ethnographies du vivre-ensemble (Peter Lang, “Public Action” series, 2011) and co-editor of L’Engagement ethnographique (Éditions de l’EHESS, “Temps et Lieux” series, 2010). She is also the author of La Civilité urbaine. Enquête sur les mœurs en régime démocratique (Economica, “Études Sociologiques” series, forthcoming).
