Sebastián F. Villamizar Santamaría is a PhD candidate in sociology and the Director of Quantitative Research at the Center for Latin American, Caribbean and Latino Studies (CLACLS) at the City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate Center. He is interested in urban and environmental sociology with a focus on inequality. His dissertation studies the effects of rapid urbanization in rural areas, analyzing rural gentrification in an area of Colombia where upper-middle-class newcomers live alongside peasants and face similar issues relating to infrastructure, security, and planning. He also works as an editor and translator in human rights and the social sciences.
