Valerie E. Stahl is a PhD candidate in urban planning at Columbia University. Her mixed-methods scholarship focuses on truly affordable housing, community development, and land use, with particular consideration as to how to facilitate inclusive and equitable plans and policies for historically excluded residents of large US cities. She is currently completing her dissertation on a contested public-housing redevelopment process at the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA). Valerie is the co-editor of Zoning: A Guide for 21st-Century Planning (Routledge). She has also published in the Journal of Planning Education and Research (JPER), as well as in popular media including The Atlantic Cities and Slate.
