Efadul Huq

Efadul Huq is an urban scholar-practitioner and assistant professor of environmental science and policy at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. His research and teaching bring together urban political ecology, environmental justice, and community-led planning, with a focus on Bangladesh and the United States. He examines how development and environmental policy reshape land, water, housing, and livelihoods, and how communities organize in response to displacement and ecological harm. He co‑leads ReWET, a community-led urban wetland restoration project in Dhaka that connects ecological repair with livelihoods and stewardship in Korail. Huq previously coordinated Dhaka North City Corporation’s Local Experts Advisory Committee, bringing researchers, practitioners, and community organizations into municipal policy discussions.
