Alice Franck is a lecturer (assistant professor) in geography at Paris‑1 Panthéon–Sorbonne University. Her work focuses on Sudan, and more specifically the Khartoum urban area since the 2000s. Her doctoral research into urban agriculture in Khartoum led her in particular to study the reinforcement of land-related tensions and issues in the Sudanese capital. From 2013 to 2016, she benefited from a secondment, to the role of Coordinator of the CEDEJ‑K (Centre d’Études et de Documentation Économiques, Juridiques et Sociales au Soudan – Centre for Economic, Legal and Social Studies and Documentation in Sudan) in Khartoum, enabling her to observe and analyse in depth the urban redevelopments currently under way in Greater Khartoum.
