Created in 2020 by over 40 female teachers and researchers from French architecture and landscape architecture schools, the Architoo collective (in full: Architoo, Écoles d’Architecture et de Paysage : l’Égalité, Maintenant ! – Architoo, Architecture and Landscape Schools: Equality, Now!) campaigns for equality and diversity in higher education. In particular, it has called out the lack of progress made in recruiting women to posts in architecture and landscape architecture schools, where men are still overrepresented in teaching teams. The Architoo collective seeks to call into question the theoretical and practical frameworks of the teaching of architecture and landscape architecture, which have long been based on criteria that value hierarchies with regard to gender, race, and class.
Architoo works to combat harassment, sexist and sexual aggressions, and practices of infra-ordinary violence that persist in architecture and landscape architecture schools.
