John J. Betancur

John J. Betancur is a professor of urban planning at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs (CUPPA), with a focus on international community development and political economy. His is the co‑author of Claiming Neighborhood: New Ways of Understanding Urban Change (with Janet Smith; University of Illinois Press, 2016); Reinventing Race, Reinventing Racism (co‑edited with Cedric Herring; Brill, 2012); and The Collaborative City: Opportunities and Struggles for Blacks and Latinos in US Cities (co‑edited with Douglas Gills; Garland, 2000).
