Mohammad Azaz

Mohammad Azaz is an applied researcher, urban policy adviser, and environmental advocate in Bangladesh. He founded the River and Delta Research Centre (RDRC), where he has led research and action-oriented initiatives on water governance, river restoration, and ecological justice. His work documents Dhaka’s rivers, canals, and wetlands, examining how urban development and resource governance affect both waterways and the communities whose lives depend on them. Between 2025 and 2026, Azaz served as the appointed administrator (the equivalent of mayor) of Dhaka North City Corporation. In that role, he pursued canal restoration, biodiversity protection, urban greening, and partnerships with youth and community organizations.
