Francesca Artioli

Francesca Artioli is a political scientist, urban planner, assistant professor at the École d’Urbanisme de Paris (Paris School of Urban Planning, where she is affiliated to Paris-Est Créteil University), and a member of the Lab’Urba research laboratory. She defended her PhD thesis in political science in 2014 at Sciences Po Paris (within the Centre for European Studies and Comparative Politics). Her research seeks to question the transformation of public action in the city, from two perspectives. First, her work examines changes in public urban-planning and development policy resulting from the state’s withdrawal from this domain, the reform of public-property laws, and the intensification of financial constraints. Secondly, and more recently, her work focuses on new actors and objects of urban policy, and in particular short-term rentals and associated digital platforms, which have led to an intensification of commercial uses of housing. Methodologically, her work places significant emphasis on infranational and international comparisons.
